North River End of Season Tournament !!!
Sunday Afternoon Vs. Firehawks (championship):
In the second cross over, the Firehawks defeated the Iron Horses to create the first all North River final. Everyone knew it was going to be a good game and the kids on both teams worked their hardest. It was going to come down to who wanted it more and who won the battles. Both teams played really strong with lots of intensity and it was a fun game. The Firehawks came out strong and were firing everything they had at the Ice Dogs. The score remained blank until the final minute of the first, when the Firehawks struck first. By the third period, the Ice Dogs found themselves down by two goals but did not give up. The Ice Dogs poured their hearts out and were rewarded with their first goal but unfortunately that was all we could get before the final buzzer....

Congratulations to the Firehawks on winning the North River End of Season Tournament. It was a fun game by both teams and both teams should be congratulated for a fun and entertaing game. Hold you heads up high Ice Dogs. We made it to the Championship game and played all the way to the final day of hockey. Our team also did very well in the skills competition and took home several prize packages !! We had a great season and made new friends. It was a great year and the Ice Dogs were sucessfull on and off the ice. Great job by everyone, from the kids, parents, coaches, manager, and trainer. Thank you for a wonderful year filled with great memories. Thanks everyone and we will see each other again at the party on Sunday...

Sunday Morning Vs. Hampton (cross overs):
The Ice Dogs came to the rink early Sunday morning, knowing they had to bring the same intensity that they had the night before and they did just that. Maybe it was the help of the "sugar packets" that one Ice Dog had before the game. From the first drop of the puck, the Ice Dogs poured it on and kept it going for most of the game. Before the first period was over, the Ice Dogs found themselves up by 3 goals. It was a good game from all the boys and they kept going hard at Hampton who had trouble generating any momentum. The legs did start to get a little tired coming on the end, but the Ice Dogs were able to come away with the victory. With that wn, the Ice Dogs secured themselves a berth in the final against either the Firehawks or Iron Horses.

Saturday Vs. Tyne Valley:

WOW !!!!! That had to be the most intense and amazing game the Ice Dogs played all season... The Ice Dogs came to the rink tonight knowing they had to lay it all out on the ice tonight if they wanted to keep their season going. With Tyne Valley beating Alberton in an earlier game and all 4 teams having the same record of 1 win and 1 loss, it was clear the winner of this game was going to the cross overs on Sunday. Before the game began we told the team to play their game. The last two games the Ice Dogs played really well and we told them to keep playing hard on the ice and to put pressure on them right away. Well from the drop off the puck, the Ice Dogs were on fire and all over Tyne Valley. They all played their hardest and worked hard every shift. Tyne Valley was on their heels for most of the game.

It was a VERY fast paced game for both teams and end to end at times. The Ice Dogs did build up a small lead, but did see it shrink in the third period to a one goal lead. However the Ice Dogs did not give up and kept the pressure on Tyne Valley. The penalties tonight were out of this world for both teams. Tyne Valley had to kill of at least one 5 on 3 powerplay and the Ice Dogs had to kill of at least two 5 on 3 powerplays and we even had 3 kids in the box at once . Tyne Valley pulled their goalie at the end of the game for the extra attacker but the Ice Dogs were able to hang on for the win. The whole team deserved to have the MVP award tonight, great job guys and keep it up. One game at a time.... GO TEAM ICE DOGS !!!

With our win over Tyne Valley and the Firehawks win over Alberton......

*** THE ICE DOGS FINISHED FIRST IN THEIR DIVISION !!!! ***

Friday Vs. Alberton:
The Ice Dogs played their second game of the tournament against Alberton. The Ice Dogs knew it was going to be a hard pace and exciting game and that they would have to come out hard and fast. The Ice Dogs did exactly that and were rewarded with a quick goal in the first period. Alberton started to put more pressure on the Ice Dogs and tied up the game before the first period ended. The Ice Dogs played a good game. It was just one of those games where the puck did not do what we wanted it to do and Alberton got the bounces tonight. All the kids played hard and did their best. There is no shame in losing when you play your hardest on the ice, so hold your heads up high tonight guys, you did a great job out on the ice.

We are still in the tournament. One loss does not mean the end. We need to come out hard tomorrow night and bare done against Tyne Valley. If we keep playing hard like we played the last two games, good things will happen on the ice. NEVER NEVER give up and fight till the last whistle.... GO TEAM ICE DOGS !!!

Thursday Vs. North River Firehawks:
The Ice Dogs played their first game of the tournament Thursday night against the Provincial Champs, the North River Firehawks. Both teams have played well against each other and the games have always been very entertaining. The Ice Dogs knew that they would have to bring their 'A' game and come out with lots of energy or we would be in trouble early. The Ice Dogs did not disappoint. From the first drop of the puck we were all over the Firehawks and took the play to them. The kids all worked hard and were rewarded with 2 goals in the first period. The kids never gave up the whole game and played their hearts out every shift. Both teams played amazing and when the dust settled, the Ice Dogs were victorious with a 5-4 win to open the Tournament.

All in all, it was a great game by both teams as both teams played their hearts out. The Firehawks are a formable opponent and you can never stop skating with them, or you will be in trouble. The Ice Dogs did a great job of playing our game and keeping for the most part out of the penalty box. We were able to capitalize on a couple of power plays tonight and everything we threw at the net, resulted in good scoring chances. Jack played strong between the pipes tonight, as always, and kept the Ice Dogs in the game when the Firehawks were putting strong pressure on the Ice Dogs. Great win tonight guys and great job playing as a team. Keep it up and never give up. LETS GO ICE DOGS !!!
